An entry in the Copenhagen Bike Share Competition, the SoBi bike share system enhances personal mobility by using wireless technology to set city bikes free.
Using wireless technology embedded in a bicycle lock that can mount to nearly any bicycle, the system is scalable and flexible.
Commuters, Tourists, and Copenhageners can open a Bycykel Mobil account and have unlimited access to bicycles equipped with a secure lock, GPS, and wireless communications. A central server approves transactions and tracks the bike in the system.
Once finished with a bike you end the transaction by engaging the manual lock. The lock design allows for two types of locking. The first immobilizes the bike by locking the back wheel and the second immobilizes the bike while also securing it to a rack or pole. Once the lock is engaged, the lock box sends a message to the server to update the bike's status.
Storage and repair hubs would be located throughout the city with the customers doing the leg work of redistributing bicycles through cash incentives. The repair hubs design is courtesy of Bike ARC in California.
